Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce

As I return to the Chamber presidency in the midst of the worst recession in living memory it is hard not to be weighed down with all the doom & gloom. Unemployment rising, banks in crisis, retail sales falling, sterling exchange rates unfavourable to southern border businesses. Yet most business people remain optimistic about the future and realise that we must all work harder for longer in order to weather this perfect storm.

The members of Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce intend to promote our town and businesses like never before. I firmly believe that as a community pulling together that we can overcome any obstacle. Already Carrickmacross UDC have pledged funding of €15000 to promote the town in whatever way the Chamber sees fit. The Chamber with the support of the members will match that figure with another €15000. Together we hope to encourage people to come to Carrickmacross, have a bite to eat, enjoy a social drink, meet friends and neighbours and avail of excellent customer service, choice and value in all our businesses.

There is I believe reason to be optimistic for 2010. The sewerage scheme will be completed by year end. Work is about to begin on the new civic offices and the recycling centre on the Convent lands. Planning applications for new businesses have been submitted and await decision. The Shirley Estate leases issue will finally be heard in the Supreme Court in March.
Finally I hope 2010 is a successful year for all businesses in Carrickmacross and hopefully we will see and feel the benefits of an upturn in the global economy and a better future for all.
