Rates 2010
The Chamber of Commerce have called on the Town Council to reduce the Rates for 2010 in light of the current economic situation and the downturn in business for many chamber members as a result of the sewerage works and street closures.
Town Council Opt for No Rate Increase - 2009
Carrickmacross Town Council has frozen the annual rate level by not increasing the percentage levied on local businesses for 2009 at its Annual Budget meeting this week.
Annual rates or local taxes are collected by the council from individual businesses based on the council set rate of valuation of business premises in a given town or area. By not increasing the rate of valuation this year Carrickmacross Town Council will have eased the pressure on businesses already under siege by a faltering economy, cuts in VAT north of the border and VAT increases south of the border. Carrickmacross Lights Up!
Carrickmacross Chamber of Commerce would like to invite everyone to come into Carrickmacross Main Street on Sunday, November 30th at 5.30pm for the switching on of the Christmas Lights. A very special guest will be coming from the North Pole to switch on the lights - Santa! He will be given an escort up the Main Street by the Scouts and An Lochran Linn Band, so come along and join in the fun.
The Chamber would like to remind people that the Chamber Gift Vouchers are a great Christmas present for all ages and almost all the shops in Carrickmacross accept them. Vouchers are for sale in Home & Gifts, Birdys, O'Rourke Oils or from a chamber committee member. Thank you for all your support this year.
Carrickmacross Chamber AGM 2008
Our AGM meeting took place on Monday, 22nd September at 8.00pm in the Fiddlers Elbow.
President's Address, Chamber AGM
This town has undergone immense economic changes in recent times, some good & some not so good. Since I arrived 14 years ago we have seen the fabric of the town gradually eroded. Footfall has been reduced by the Mart leaving, the introduction of the bypass, the Shirley estate issue, the anticipation of a new town centre & endless digging for rewiring, gas supply, broadband and now the sewerage & water collection system - all in the name of PROGRESS. Even the most change resistant among us would say ‘OK life is definitely trying to give us a message’. The pessimistic among us would say ‘close up shop’ and retire but the eternally optimistic, here tonight, would say ‘Right, no room for complacency here, no room for solo runs, & certainly no room for small mindedness’. What we need is to row together to win back our customers. We need to market our town as a collective.
Just as the town has been experiencing changes so has the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We are an all inclusive Chamber not just for retail but for our very important industries too. We understand the importance of ‘doing business’ whether it is a service, professional, small shop or manufacturing, the fundamentals of business are still the same. It is our aim as an organisation to offer support and encouragement to all businesses and individuals who select Carrickmacross as their base for business activity.
We would like to welcome all new businesses who seen the potential in Carrickmacross & have decided to enter into a new business venture even in this air of economic gloom. I would like to encourage them by saying that there are plenty of good opportunities for good companies. I wish you well.
We were delighted with the support & turnout for the public meeting of the Sewerage and Water Scheme in the Workhouse and welcomed the seat on the monthly liaison committee meeting.
On a closing note I would like to thank the Town Council for their continued financial support for our Christmas lights and we look forward to a continued good working relationship with them throughout 2008/09.
